    The Nomad Residency Permit aims to attract individuals who wish to reside in Malta and are either working independently or are working remotely for a non-Malta based entity.

    Insight from AE Business Advisors

    What is the Nomad Residency Permit?

    Malta’s geographical location, Mediterranean climate and good standard of living make Malta a very desirable place to reside.

    Whilst EU nationals have the treaty freedom to settle in Malta, non-EU citizens must have a reason to reside in Malta. The most common reasons were employment with local businesses or study.

    The Nomad Residency Permit is targeted to attract individuals who wish to reside in Malta and are either working independently or are working remotely for a non-Malta based entity.

    In order to qualify for the Nomad Residency Permit, the applicants must:

    1) Prove that they can work remotely, using telecoms and that they are:
    a) Employees of a non-Maltese company; or
    b) Shareholders in a non-Maltese company; or
    c) Freelancers servicing predominantly non-Maltese clients;

    2) Provide evidence that their monthly gross income is more than EUR 2,700;

    3) Obtain a health insurance covering all risks in Malta;

    4) Rent or purchase a property in Malta;

    5) Pass a background verification check.

    If the above conditions are satisfied the applicant will be granted a residence permit valid for one  year or a national visa of 90 to 180 days depending on the intended duration of stay in Malta. Such permit or visa may be renewed upon expiry, subject to relevant conditions.
