Eligibility Criteria 

The Start-Up Finance scheme is designed for small businesses with a clear potential for growth. Whether you’re launching a brand-new venture or seeking to scale your existing operation, this scheme presents an excellent opportunity to secure the funding you need. 

Types of Financial Assistance 

Eligible start-ups can access repayable loans, with amounts dependent on the innovative nature of the business and its location: 

  • Non-Innovative Start-Ups: Up to €500,000. 
  • Innovative Start-Ups: Up to €1,000,000. 

For start-ups situated in assisted areas, these limits increase significantly: 

  • Non-Innovative Start-Ups in Assisted Areas: Up to €750,000. 
  • Innovative Start-Ups in Assisted Areas: Up to €1,500,000. 

Covered Costs 

The Start-Up Finance scheme covers a range of expenses crucial for establishing a robust business foundation. Eligible costs include: 

  • Salaries: Use funds to support your team’s payroll and attract top talent. 
  • Asset Procurement: Invest in the essential equipment and technology necessary for efficient operations. 
  • Materials and Services: Access specialised materials and services vital to your business success. 
  • Establishment Costs: Cover expenses related to setting up operations in Malta.

The application deadline for the Start-Up Finance scheme is September 30, 2026.
